Kit Kat and Android recently teamed up to create a spectacular marketing campaign to celebrate their new partnership and latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. The campaign, titled “Have A Seat” takes a play on words approach with Kit Kat’s famous slogan “Have A Break.” The campaign included several outdoor ads placed strategically around the city of Amsterdam and Utrecht. The ads contained a message that stated a date and time that enticed pedestrians to sit on a bench at that particular moment to win a Nexus 7 tablet. The bench however was no regular old bench. The ads contained a narrow red bench; the same look and shape of a Kit Kat bar.
Not surprisingly, the campaign gained a lot of momentum and buzz. As you can see from the video below, participants did not give up their chances to win a free Nexus 7 tablet. Despite the hour, or the rain, the participant’s efforts definitely paid off.
We are definitely impressed by this creative campaign and by the dedication people had to sit on a small bench for hours! Offering a challenge to win a free gift has been done before, but Android and Kit Kat takes this marketing strategy further by making it a hilariously difficult challenge. This particular campaign proves that a creative marketing campaign doesn’t have to be complicated in order to be successful.
A simple strategy can be fun if you think outside the box. When developing your own marketing campaign, ask yourself whether it will gain the “buzz” you want to achieve. To get you inspired, we encourage you to look at what others are doing. Have a brainstorming session with your marketing team to see how you can improve what’s already been done, and figure out how to make it your own. Just remember, a successful creative campaign doesn’t have to be outrageous, it just has to be different.
