Tim Hortons coffee lovers will soon be able to surf the internet while enjoying a delicious cup of Tim Hortons coffee.
David Morello, Director of Public Affairs for Tim Hortons, announced last month that the company was looking to target different consumers like students and business people with their free wifi offerings.
It is estimated that about 90% of Tim Hortons restaurants will offer wifi in the near future, but there is no plans thus far to offer wifi in the non-traditional Tim Hortons locations.
I have to say I find this announcement interesting. As a former Tim Hortons employee, we were asked to enforce a strict no loitering policy in the several different stores I worked in. If a consumer was in our store for more than 1 hour (including students), we had to ask them to leave (as we were not a library). This would allow us to free up store space for other consumers (and encourage high consumer turnover). It will be interesting to see Tim Hortons shift in their loitering policy once free wifi is officially introduced.
As a business women, I often meet with my clients at a Starbucks because of their free wifi and quiet atmosphere. I find Tim Hortons to be very busy at times, with many people coming in and out. I am interested to see how the general public will react to the new wifi offer at Tim Hortons.
I would love to hear from you. What do you think, will you give up your usual hangout at McDonalds or Starbucks to surf the internet while enjoying a double double?
