JCPenney Will Be Self-Serve By 2014

Last week, ABC news reported that JCPenney will soon be removing all check-out counters, replacing them with self check-out machines. This latest announcement is said to be a financial move for JCPenney as they work to shift their financial budget to a more profitable avenue.

CEO Ron Johnson noted the financial changes are due in part to an effort to return the department store to a profitable state. Johnson told “Fortune” magazine that he hopes to see the new self check-outs implemented by 2014.

I personally didn’t know JCPenney was having financial issues, and I am interested to hear what shoppers of JCPenney think of these changes. What will this mean for the American economy and the unemployment rate?

On another note, the local Walmart in my town has recently removed the self check-outs from their stores and replaced them with full check-outs again.

  1. I will not shop @ JCP;this gives the customer the impression that they do not care about them. No conversation, no personality & absolutely no customer satisfaction. Should JCP customers start bring their own "plastic bags" to put their purchased items in?
