PETA's New Porn Site

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the controversial animal rights organization announced plans to launch a new porn website using the new .xxx extension. I first read this in the Marketing Daily publication a few days ago, and my first thoughts were … why?
While many companies strive to create a positive brand message for their company, PEFT, on the other hand, is actively seeking to associate themselves with the hot topic of sex. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise considering this is the same company that once enlisted Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson to appear in their ads.
The company associates the new .xxx domain as an opportunity to strengthen their brand awareness and bring to light important issues of animal rights to a different segment of internet users. Interestingly enough, the company has chosen to use racy images on their new .xxx domain to encourage internet users to take action for animals.
Although I won’t be visiting their new .xxx website, I am quite interested to see how this controversial campaign will pan out for their company.
