I received another email a few hours later from John Peters again reconfirming that the couches were sold to him (but I have never talked to him), and again I wouldn't have to worry about shipping or handling. I then received another email from Rose Mary saying that she was having a problem with the shipping company, she transferred the money to my PayPal account, with an extra $900, and asked if I could pay the shipping company in Chicago via Western Union. An hour later I again received an email from John Peters confirming that this was safe and ok to go ahead and pay the shipping company in Chicago, and advised me that I only had 24 hours to make the payment before the offer expired. Essentially this company asked me to send them $800 "for shipping costs" in order to have my PayPal money transfer sent to my bank account? That didn't sound right
When I logged into my email, I saw a very convincing email from what looked like firstname.lastname@example.org showing the $2,500 money transfer in my account, with a note saying the money will be held until I am able to provide proof that I have paid the shipping company. Funny thing though, when I logged into my PayPal account, I had a $0 balance. I then began to wonder about this whole process, things sounded a little sketchy from the beginning, but now things were really not adding up. I decided to google search the shipping company name that was provided to me and found the following responses:
- Do not send your money to that guy he is a scamer and he is in Nigeria but telling people he is in england you may see emails coming from this address: Service@PayPal <email@example.com thats all fake, you should report it to the FBI
- THIS IS A SCAM! The same thing happened to me when I tried to sell my laptop on Craigslist
- Paypal will NEVER ask for tracking information or wait until an item is shipped before crediting the money
The company's name is Octavius Shotwell in Chicago. Interesting, when you google search the company name their is no company website, no information about the company in any online directories, and a ton of bad news about this company. Don't sent them any money!
