This is a follow up post to my Important Scam Alert: Octavius Shotwell
Last week I posted the blog about Octavius Shotwell and have received overwhelming response from Twitter and google search. It seems as if I am not the only one who has come across this person while trying to sell something on Craigslist. I wanted to pass along some of the cover stories he has been telling me in hopes to stop the scams from happening.
The first email I got was from Bob Amy Afdahl alafdahl9@gmail.com asking if my couches were still for sale. But the responding email was from Rose Mary rosemary664@googlemail.com saying:
Thanks for the response on the item but my work schedule is keeping me too busy as i work as an air Hostess for Delta Airline.I would have loved to come in person, but due to the nature of my work. I won't be able to. I wish to let you know that I'm satisfied with the condition. Like I said there's no doubt I'm gonna purchase it. Therefore I want you to consider it sold by withdrawing the advert from Craigslist.org
Note: That you will not be responsible for shipping and handling. The shipment will be arrange by my private transporters and mechanic after you receive your payment. Kindly provide me your name and full address where item will be pick up, so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up and delivery to my address and also send me your paypal money request. do get back to me as soon as possible so i can make the payment via paypal. thanks...
The shipping and handling part is what caught my attention. It made me wonder where my couches were being shipped to, and why? Why not buy something local?
I was just about to make the payment when i had this little problem with the picking up. I got an email from my agent, He said he won't come and pick it up unless i pay him the agent commission fee first in order to be able to schedule a pick up time. So i have to ask you to help me with the pick up fees, i will include the $800 USD they charged to pick them up (1st class Service) to the payments i will send through PayPal. After i have made the payments and it has been confirmed by PayPal. I will need you to help me send the $800 USD to my pick up agent through Western Union Money Transfer. The western union money transfer can be made at a post office near to you and there is always a western union at www.westernunion.com.I will be making the payments shortly and will email you as soon as it has been done..
Name: Octavius Shotwell (what kind of shipping company name is that? This is actually the scammers name!)
Address: 1158 W. Taylor,
City:Chicago,
State: IL
Zipcode:60607
Country: United State.
Through this whole process, I wondered why I had to pay the shipping company. If you are able to pay me via paypal, you certainly are more then able to pay a shipping company through paypal. Thank goodness for google, besides the fact that everything seems a little fishy, google confirmed that this was in fact a scam!
I received another email from my craigslist post (this guy just doesn't quit) asking if the couches were still for sale from a Deane Peters deane.peters001@gmail.com, but the responding email came from John Murphy omurchusp@gmail.com saying:
I wish to let you know that I'm satisfied with the condition. Like I said there's no doubt I'm gonna purchase it, Note that you will not be responsible for shipping and handling. The shipment will be arrange by my private transporters after you receive your payment. Kindly provide me your name and full address, so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up and delivery to my address thanks
Again, why not purchase somewhere local?
I received yet another email, this time from Laura Laine rosebenton8@gmail.com, and the email was signed off Rose? The email went on to say something about being an offshore oil worker and he was unable to come look at the couches. My favorite part, "the phone lines are down right now so I can't call you, but I can check my email. I want to buy these for my son as a surprise," same line in the email as the last few, you will not be responsible for shipping and handling. I didn't even respond. I received another email from Giovanni Gonzalez thedongio@gmail.com saying:
I will be buying this for the price you have listed it for Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment. In the meantime, can you send me more photos (if available)?
His story seems to be the same every time, conveniently out of town but wants to buy the product sight-unseen, using PayPal for paying, and always an agent or shipping company ("my people will handle the shipping").
If I could say just one thing to this guy it would be SPELL CHECK! After this experience, I got to thinking ... this guy went through a lot of effort to make up fake names and create many fake email addresses, why not use his emails for couponing :) hopefully that will teach him a lesson, maybe even sign him up for some newsletters and spam while I am at it.
Just to wrap things up here, if you are contacted buy a buyer who is not local and talks about shipping charges and asks you to pay for them, don't! And most importantly, it should never cost you money when you are selling something! Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
I just received an email from "rose" myself for a piano. When I replied to "laura laine" at rosebenton8@gmail.com, I got an immediate reply from "laura laine" but the email had changed to norakuzel01@gmail.com. Of course, she was willing to buy a piano sight unseen and wanted my name and full address "to calculate the cost of shipping". I told her she needed to come play the instrument and asked where she is. Haven't heard back.
ReplyDeleteI was scammed by the same person and when I realized it was a scam I email them back and told them I knew it was a scam and now they are threatening legal action because they have put the money in my paypal account.. The only problem is I closed my paypal account and there was no money in there when I closed it!Suggestions..
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry about it. I have read other reports that this person sends otu emails as an FBI agent, saying if you don't pay him, you will be arrested. This is all just crap. I would just ignore the emails. I had an email from "PayPal" or what looked like paypal, saying the money was in my account. When I logged into my paypal account, there was no money in there.
ReplyDeleteOk thank you, I called my dad, who works for the local sheriffs dept, and he told me to report the scam to the FBI on their website and no have anymore contact with "Laura". I received the same email from "PayPal" I even emailed it back saying there is no money in there and I never got a reply back. I deleted my ad on craigslist and my paypal account (which I never used anyways). I feel a great bit of relief now after reading your posts and talking to my dad. I just hate that I didn't get my bedroom set sold LOL. I was looking forward to selling it.
ReplyDeleteTried to scam me as well, good thing i found her here. Thanks guys.
ReplyDeleteShe also goes by:
slimmyabbey@gmail.com
and then switched it to:
norakuzel01@gmail.com
"Kindly provide me your name and full address so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up for me."
did anyone actually give him your address? do you have his phone number? did he call you back after he found out it was a scam?
ReplyDeleteI never heard from him again ... but than again I did tell him to Fuck off!
ReplyDeleteJust got this from Rose Mary . I gave her my phone number and told her to call me.
ReplyDelete----
Thanks for your mail. i would be glad to pay for it as soon as possible because am buying this for my son, though i will not be available to come for an inspection due to the nature of my work as an Investment group manager,It hard to make a phone calls and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I insisted on PayPal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my PayPal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your full name and your PayPal email address and the price so i can transfer the funds Asap for it and please if you don't have PayPal account yet, it is very easy to set up, just visit www.paypal.com and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need your full name and the e-mail address you use for registration with PayPal so as to transfer the funds. I have The Shipping Company that will send their pick up agent to come for the picked up after the payment has been made.
Kindly include your address of where the pick up will take place so that i can forward it to the shipping company for them to calculate the pick up cost for me
Thanks for sharing your comments everyone! Funny that "Rose" finds it hard to make a phone call as an Investment group manager??
ReplyDeleteHappy to help!
a guy named John roland is trying this on me. and he keeps calling. sometimes at 3:30 in the morning. i yelled at him and told himto stop calling i was on to him. he started talking back and i said fuck off and he said it right back and kept talking. he acts like he dosnt understand u. i have 2 phione numbers for him.
ReplyDeleteLaura Laine (norakuzel01@gmail.com), Debra Jaysen(debrajaysen@yahoo.com) both are the same person that tried to scam me. I advised them that I am only accepting cash and will not use any third parties. I realized they are the same person by the way that they write, be aware.
ReplyDeleteJust got one from Debra Jaysen, now I know not to go through with this deal .Thanks! See below, looks suspiciously like the statement posted above:
DeleteThanks for the mail.I'm happy you still have the furniture available, sorry for the late response i have been busy with work. I am okay with the price.I would have loved to come and see it in your house but my schedule will not permit me I'm a busy kind of person. You can get back to me with more pics if you still have them so we canproceed with payment arrangements and pick up. I will be making the payment with cashiers check or certified check, so I will need your full name that will be on the check and your full address where you can easily receive the package via courier and I will arrange for the pickup myself. I will hold till this check finally clears by your bank before the pickup.
NOTE:The payment I will be sending you will be of an excess. This you will give to the cargo company when they contact you for the pickup. All you need to do is to get the payment verified in your bank and faithfully deduct your own money as soon as you have the cash and send the remaining to the cargo company for them to come for the pickup. Please get back to me if you are okay with this and I will implore you to remove the ads off craigslist because I really want to purchase this asap.
Oh I'm going thru this right now he said if i don't give him the money he's gonna contact the FBI lol.
ReplyDeleteI have heard that a few times about the FBI, it is just empty threats! Don't listen to him. There has been no money deposited into your PayPal account, there fore you have no reason to proceed further with this guy.
ReplyDeleteI am going through this right now.Laura Laine said she was in New Hampshire, and the address to the shipping co.is in Chicago,so i did some research and typed in the address on Google satellite and found out that this so called world wide shipping co.was actually someones house in a suburban Chicago neighborhood.since they were using what looked like pay pal,i forwarded all the emails to spoof@paypal.com and they concluded that this is a scam.I also believe that they could use spelling and grammar lessons,it looks like a 8yr old wrote these emails both her and this world wide shipping co.Thanks to Google and the real pay pal i will not get ripped off from these idiots.and one just more thing stay away from norakuzel01@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you guys hadn't posted all this I never would have found it and would have been screwed over. I had basically the same experience except that I felt something was fishy when the grammar was so terrible. Then they mentioned shippers. Here's the emails in case someone Googles it:
From Laura Laine - norakuzel01@gmail.com each time.
Email 1.
How long have you been using it, i will like you to send some picture of it to me if you still have more available picture.......
My Response:
Hi Lydia,
I do not have those dimensions handy as the couch is in storage in Surrey. It’s a pretty standard, three person couch though. If you’d like to come view it, we can arrange a time at your convenience.
Email Two:
Thank you very much for the response. I am Okay with the condition and I will be happy to buy the item. The shipping company will come to your location for pick up. Kindly provide me your name and full address so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up for me.
Hi Laura,
The couch is in a storage unit. If you are going to have it shipped, how do you propose getting the funds to me? I am happy to meet the shipping company at the unit; however, I will not do so without receipt of payment.
Email Three:
Am sending you Payment via PayPal as a secure way for me to send you money in an online transaction..cos have been using these mode of payment for 5years now and i have no problem with it.. once you have complete the transaction with paypal then the shipping company is going to schedule pick up time and date with your right
My Response:
Hi Laura,
I’m sorry, but I don’t think so. I’m familiar with PayPal but will not be using it for this transaction. It’s cash, in hand, on person, or no deal. You aren’t the only one interested and it’s simply not worth my time or effort to potentially be scammed.
Good luck finding another couch though!
It's at this point that I decided to Google them and found you. Thanks for saving me the stress.
I'm glad to hear this blog and other comments have been helpful in stopping people from being scammed! Happy to hear you weren't scammed into sending money to Chicago. Thanks for providing the email information. The scammer seems to have gotten lazy with your email and never sent a back story (ie flight attendant or offshore oil rig worker) to cover for not being able to come get your couch. And yes, his grammar is terrible :)
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm dealing with Daniel Barron (barron991220@gmail.com) A.K.A. John Murphy (omurchusp@gmail.com).
ReplyDeleteFirst reply to my craiglist ad came from Daniel. After my reply John emailed me.
Daniel Barron (barron991220@gmail.com):
Hello,
Do you still have this item for sell?
My reply:
Hi Daniel.
Yes I do. There is one more person interested. I'll sell it to whoever takes it first.
John Murphy omurchusp@gmail.com:
Hi so much appreciate your immediate response to my earlier mail. I wish to let you know that I'm satisfied with the condition. Like I said there's (NO DOUBT) You can proceed to take off the ad on Craigslist Because I don't want any other interruption by another buyer. I'm gonna purchase it, Note that you will not be responsible for shipping and handling,The shipment will be arrange by my private transporters after you receive your payment. Kindly provide me your Name and your physical address, such as your Home address so that i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up and delivery to my address.
Best Regard.
--
The shipping part is what raised the flag for me as well. I started to do some research on this guy and ended up here. On one hand I'm glad I've been able to confirm it is a scam, on the other hand I still have a clawfoot tub to sell.
Very good blog. Thanks!
I have a laura laine on a craigslist item right now. Looking for my address to calculate shipping (I gave a zip . . . that's good enough right?). It seemed a little fishy from the first email and then I found your post. Way to go everyone.
ReplyDeleteWord to the wise, it has yet to fail me . . . if it seems too good to be true it probably is. If it feels like ti is more work than it is worth . . . also probably true.
I as well, same problem, same alias on 9/27/2011. Laura Laine: norakuzel01@gmail.com from Craigslist Los Angeles to buy expensive stemware:
ReplyDelete"
Thank you very much for the response. I am Okay with the condition and I will be happy to buy the item. The shipping company will come to your location for pick up. Kindly provide me your name and full address so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up for me.
"
Love that you created this post. thank you for the heads up!
omg dealing with this laura lady as well. found it odd that she didnt even want to see my stuff
ReplyDeletethank for this
THNAK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU .
ReplyDeleteThis is what she or he sent me
laura Laine
Thank you very much for the response. I am Okay with the condition and I will be happy to buy the item. The shipping company will come to your location for pick up. Kindly provide me your name and full address so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up for me.
Oh MY GOD . I sensed that there is somethin fishy that she did not want to come to see herself .
Hi and thanks for your postings. I am receiving numerous different names with Laura laine being one who continues to send them and transfers the money to my paypal acct and then also emails from shipping co and paypal! Here's a few more of her names or her friends names: Ashley Bowling also buys sight unseen, Frank Desmond, Clyde Wright and now believe it or not Kenneth Cole!! Also have
ReplyDeleteDavid Hopkins, in his last email he transferred $2300. to my paypal for a $1400. Item and included
$850. for shipping, $50. for western union and gave a name of Marie michaels in Kansas city, Kansas.
Thanks for the info, hope this helps someone else cause these idiots actually do get people to go for it.
Just to update the above post, still receiving emails from a very polite Kenneth Cole who is now a marine from Coniva, Ca but is based at the naval air station in penscola, Fl, and cannot leave the base till 3rd week in October so he wants to pay for the item, full price with a cashiers check! Signed the email as Sgt. Cole
ReplyDelete145 MCT, Q West, TMR Section and gave a cell #
that does not have voice mail. We did contact the
base and gave the info to them also but they were unable to give us any info which of course is
understandable. These Scammers are all relentless, beware, as usual if it appears to good it
most definitely is..
Hope this helps.
I have received a reply from Bob Amy .... Then a quick reply back from Rose Mary. Same story about the shipping. It immediately raised a flag with me because I was only selling Brugmansia cuttings that were $5 - 10 ea. Accidentally, I posted it as $510. The dollar amount must have gotten their attention.
ReplyDeleteI decided to google the e-mail address and thank you guys.
I had a sneaky suspicion it was a scam.
yeah, selling my subaru for parts or repair... they asked for an exact address but i'm in a town of 50 people haha... assholes
ReplyDelete"There is a sucker born every minute"
ReplyDeletePT Barnham
Dealt w/ this Laura Laine as well...exact same email threads as what has previously been posted. I googled the email address because it seemed sketchy and came upon this blog, thanks!
ReplyDeleteInteresting I just received an email from a slimmyabbey@gmail.com as well and then received the same send me your exact address crap. Yeah I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for this blog.
I was contacted today by "Bob Amy Afdahl" about a piano advertised on the Savannah, GA, Craigslist. Many thanks to those who posted above regarding this scammer!
ReplyDeleteBEWARE of this one as well"
ReplyDeletedavidhopkins007@gmail.com
tried to get me to pay 3500 to a shipping company in kansas. THANK GOD for this site that made me aware that my apprehensions were correct.
Having fun with this person who is using Mei Leicester now. Same antics on the scam.
ReplyDeleteGetting it from Mei Leicester too with loverchard03@gmail.com the email name .
ReplyDeleteAlso having fun:
"Mei, That would be great but it looks like I can fit it in my friends truck!! Give me your address Mai and we can arrange a time.
...and instead of the $750, you can have the couch if you suck my fat cock and let me have a diarrhea explosion down your throat, ok?"
and:
"Mei, you did not meet my terms so it was sold at less favorable terms. Due to your fraud I may be forced to sue you in court."
and:
"Mei, please remit $150 US immediately or face civil prosecution."
Also getting it from Mei Leicester (loverchard03@gmail.com), apparently still active at the scam job ..... some examples of their rhetoric follows....
ReplyDelete"Thank you very much for the response. I will be happy to buy it. My shipping company will come to your location for pick up. Kindly provide me your name and full address so i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up for me.Do get back to me as soon as possible.."
"Am sending you Payment via PayPal as a secure way for me to send you money in an online transaction..cos have been using these mode of payment for 5years now and i have no problem with it.. once you have complete the transaction with paypal then the shipping company is going to schedule pick up time and date with your right... "
"Am glad to hear back from you....All you need to do now is to log on to
www.paypal.com to set up a new PayPal account...Kindly get back to me with
your PayPal Email address ID once you set up the account so i can send the
money into your account quick..Cos PayPal is very secure, safe and easy to
receive in an online transaction.Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards. "
Don't fall for it people !!
Thank God for Google. I have been getting emails from Mei Leicester (loverchard03@gmail.com)to purchase a piano I'm selling on Craigs List. Absolutely same words in message. The old saying goes, "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" and this is the case. I sent back a note asking why she would want to buy a piano that she hasn't even seen. No response yet. Thanks all for the heads up.
ReplyDeletePete Pecky is new name. Still using Octavious Shotwell to send Western Union to. What a P.O.S. I called off 2 other buyers as it was for his "son". What an insult to our intelligence. Called FTC with live info. but they were not to concerned. Beware!!!!!!! The douchebag is still trying, asking for my phone number. Can't this guy be caught?
ReplyDeleteJust received the same message from loverchard03@gmail.com, and also from grankgasmark06@gmail.com - same scam wanting to buy my furniture on craig's list.
ReplyDeleteThanks much, you guys are great! I’m going to copy all the names you've submitted here and put them on a data base so I can do a search when things look suspicious – So far I have gotten 3 of these guys just this week!! But I just started posting on CraigsList.
ReplyDeleteRight now I’m working with Kenny xhorrorstories@gmail.com
I just sent him an email saying I need to close this transaction immediately as I will be leaving town.
So to please meet me at 99 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 on Tuesday January 24 at 7pm.
(This address is the local Police Station!) Do you think I will ever hear from him again??! LOL
These people remind me of the Scam Letters that flooded America from Nigerian years ago. I still have a few of those emails – kinda fun to build them up (like they got a live one) take their brains out and play with them and then drop ‘em like a hot potato.
I just got his on CL from Bob Amy Afdahl, so glad I found this blog about this scam

WOW SOUNDS JUST LIKE MINE!!!
DeleteThanks for the prompt response.. I am ready to buy it now as a gift for my brother,I am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want it to be a surprise for my brother so i wont let him know anything about it until it gets delivered to him, i am sure he will be more than happy with it. I insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address and the price so i can make the payments asap for it and pls if you don't have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through. I have a shipping agent that will come and pick it up after i have made the payment.
He said he was Linnel Jackson or Alan stewart!! Watch out it looks like hes everywhere!
So glad I found this blog, thank you !!
ReplyDeleteI got the same kind of email but with other names :
first I got an email from oribogunje florence oriflorence23@gmail
than the reply from bill puffy
Hi thanks so much appreciate your immediate response to my earlier mail. I wish to let you know that I'm satisfied with the condition. Like I said there's no doubt I'm gonna purchase it, Note that you will not be responsible for shipping and handling,The shipment will be arrange by my private transporters after you receive your payment. Kindly provide me your Name and Full address, so that i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of pick up and delivery to my address thanks.
Thank you for your postings. I knew the whole scenario seemed fishy. Mei Leicester (loverchard03@gmail.com) wanted to buy some big speakers for $1200 and sent emails with the identical text above. There are some horrible people out there, that is for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this blog...I am a first time Craig List seller and received an email from Bob Amy Afdahl asking if the vehicle was still for sale. I have responded yes but nothing else so I goggled their name and got this blog to double check to see if they were real.
ReplyDeleteLatest she/he is mccraylauraxx56@gmail.com and deaf and will ship her bank certified check by fedex over night delivery!
ReplyDeleteThank God for this posting. I too am selling an antique on Craigslist and a few hours after posting, I was sent 2 emails by different people, almost back to back. What tipped me off that something may be wrong is that their names did not match their e-mail addresses and their e-mails to me were almost identical! I receievd messages from Victoria Taiwo (shanjones61@gmail) and Debbie Atteberry (rosemaryblackw1@gmail). Both wanted to purchase the item through Paypal and arrange to have a shipping company pick up the item. Both also gave me a line of crap about being out of the country and phone lines being down and not being able to use a phone to call me. I e-mailed them both that it will be first come, first serve with cash in hand....doubt I'll hear back. SO happy to have avoided that scam!
ReplyDeleteI got an email from Victoria Taiwo (shanjones61@gmail.com) as well. I also got more of the same from Wese Say (nextburg@yahoo.com), Christina (souqg@yahoo.com) and Karen Robertson (multypurposellc@gmail.com and relb1777@gmail.com)
ReplyDeleteAll the same scam.
I got "Clyde wright". Wanted to FedEx me money for item.... A 300 lb car engine" and shipping. Emailed him a link to this site... Lol scammer was easy to detect.
DeleteThe Wese Say, did this person turn out to be a complete scam? I'm in the process of making a deal with her now. Her name is apparently Lisa?
DeleteFascinating. I got a letter not from "Christina" at the souqg@yahoo.com address, but from a "Lisa" who wanted the set for her son. She claimed she was "hearing impaired" so could not come to see it, but would accept it as is. Hmmm. You would think the scammers would try different email addresses.
DeleteJust had the same type of thing happen to me, same wording from Victoria Taiwo and Victoria Taiwo . Thanks for the heads up everyone!
ReplyDeleteVictoria Taiwo is up to no good again! She emailed about a couch I am selling and used all of the same antics. The only difference is that this time instead of needing an address for shipping, she needed an address so that her "pick up agent" could be informed of where they needed to go.
ReplyDeleteIm so glad I saw this, I got an email from Victoria Taiwo (shanjones62@gmail.com) stating she would pay through PayPal and send a pick up agent I knew it was a scam
ReplyDeletePfishing: Victoria Taiwo aka shanjones62@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about phishing PayPal accounts.
I too got an email from Victoria Taiwo (shanjones62@gmail.com) stating she would pay through PayPal and send a pick up agent. She wrote:
I will need these following details so i can proceed with the payment right away
1:Your PayPal e-Mail Address
2: Home Address
Victoria Taiwo (shanjones62@gmail.com) is pfishing for PayPal accounts.
ReplyDeleteShe wrote me:
"I will need these following details so i can proceed with the payment right away.
1:Your PayPal e-Mail Address
2: Home Address"
Beware
Thanks. Just got an email from Victoria Taowo shanjones62@gmail.com offering to strike a deal and will not be bothering to reply.
ReplyDeleteI'm selling a desk on Craigslist and got two emails today, the first asking if the desk is still available from k/t alysonamira@gmail.com. The second from Clyde Wright, email address fisherr.mattyy@gmail.com. Nearly identical verbiage to the emails above:
ReplyDelete"Hi,
Thanks for the swift response, just to let you know that am okay with the condition and price of the item, am ready for its purchase and my form of payment will be by sending you Check via Fedex next day delivery.
I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the pick up money will be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable pick up company to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location after check has been cashed,as i have other properties to be moved alongside with yours.
I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my work frame that might not be possible, but if you have the pics, might want to have a good look. Please do get back to me with your full name and address including your cell and land number so i can make out payment."
I simply replied cash only, no third parties.
Same thing happened to me! First got an email from EVANS then from CLYDE WRIGHT. He must of got mixed up with the email names and addresses he sent me. I should have notice that, but I thought maybe there was 2 interested buyers. However,I did give him my address and phone numbers. Then I told my husband about this and he said tell him no, cash only.

Hi,
Thanks for the swift response, just to let you know that am okay
with the condition and price of the item, am ready for its purchase
and my form of payment will be by sending you Check via Fedex next
day delivery.
I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the pick up money will be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable pick up company to schedule an appropriate time for he pick-up at your location after check has been cashed,as i have other properties to be moved alongside with yours.
I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my work frame that might not be possible, but if you have the pics, might want to have a good look. Please do get back to me with your full name and
address including your cell and land number so i can make out payment.
I sent him the same pics that I posted on Craigslist.
2ND EMAIL FROM: CLYDE WRIGHT
Good to read from you and thanks for the details provided. I presume we seal this a deal? I'll contact my secretary so that payment will be issued out to you ...please i want you to consider the item sold and keep off other interested buyers that would make inquiry because am ready for it's purchase.
As I've let you know that pick up and mover's fee will be included in your payment, so upon cash of check, you'll make the pick up money payable to the movers and the movers would arrange appropriate time for pick up at your location as i have other properties to be moved.I
believe this is based on trust email me back if i can trust you.
Thanks for your understanding.
MY RESPONSE:
Yes, it' a deal. I will tell any interested buyers that it has been sold. Can you tell me why I have to pay the movers fee from my payment? I am still expecting a check for the full amount $275.00 from you. What is the
check total going to be including the movers fee? Why don't you send them a separate check & I will give it to them?
MY 2ND AND LAST RESPONSE:
I'm sorry, my husband wants CASH only. The deal is off.
HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM EVAN OR CLYDE WRIGHT.

Searching the AOL email, I found a Facebook page that could be either fake, or the scammer is stealing the identity.

safe and secure for both Parties and i have been using PayPal to buy

this is from Wese Say at "nextburg@yahoo.com"
I'm so glad I checked this post. Just got an email from
ReplyDeleteMark with this reply to address:
"Mark" inquiring about my sofa for sale.
An obvious scam!!!
someone please help me
ReplyDeleteI feel like such an idiot but I have sent the address! I then googled the person thinking it was a bit dodgy upon reflection and realised it was a con! I have sent no money, and though I have been extremely foolish, I would NEVER have sent any payment when they are buying something from me. do you think they are going to attempt to scam me using my address?! i'm based in the UK.
I just got one here in the UK from Air Cdr Kim Schatschneider who's in the RAF....yeah right, why would u want conservatory furniture on an RAF base?? This is the second one I've had now for stuff I advertised in the Loot. To the poster above, don't worry about having sent an address, you've sent no money and its unlikely they'll scam your address, they'd need more info for ID theft. If u gave them any paypal details it would be a good idea to close it down and open another with a different email address if you need to. I'm now trying to figure out the best way to have some fun with my present scammer...think I'll string them along, give them fake paypal details and then tell them I work for UK security and have tracked their location....this is gonna be fun!
ReplyDeleteI too received an email from an Air Cdr Kim Schatchneider. All was OK until she said that she couldn't get her card to work when booking the shipping for the transport of the sofa she wanted from me. She then claimed to have paid extra money into my PayPal account to cover the cost, but I had to pay the £85 for the shipping FIRST before I could access my money! And she wanted it shipped to Nigeria!! I'm so glad I saw this forum as a little more researched showed that there is no RAF base in Nigeria....or an Air Cdr Kim Shatschneider. I'd already handed over my full name and PayPal details so I closed the account and blocked her two addresses:
ReplyDeletefimile.joo@googlemail.com and schatskim@gmail.com
What had me convinced was the two emails I had from service@paypal.com (with a little R icon afterwards) BUT that was a different address from all the other service@paypal.co.uk (with a green shield) that I had had before when using paypal.
I rang the RAF and reported them. They weren't too impressed that someone in Nigeria was impersonating a member of the forces to commit fraud!!!
Hi
ReplyDeleteIve just receieved a similar email from fimile.joo@googlemail.com, with regards to a microwave I am selling. She sent me the following email:
Your asking price is quite reasonable and affordable considering others I've seen lately, I'll take it. I would've love to come check it out my self bt I work for RAF. I'm currently in camp as Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Extract(SERE) instructor for new recruits.I'll arrange for pick up and delivery.I'll make the payment through PayPal for the safety of both of us. I'll need your name, the pickup address & your paypal email address for the payment. If you don't have paypal account It's very easy and secured just visit www.paypal.com and click on signup.Regards
Air Cdre. Kim Schatschneider
RAF.
I am glad I googled her name and email and found this before I sent my paypal details to her.
I have just received a similar email, from fimile.joo@googlemail.com, regarding a mower i had for sale. The email had exactly the same details as the above post, regarding paying through paypal etc.
DeleteCan not understand why people waste their time and effort!!!
