Fox News 4th of July Twitter Embarrassment

It was reported earlier this morning that Fox News Twitter account was hacked, and rumors began circulating about the assassination of U.S. President Barack Obama. These allegations are not true of course and have resulted in an embarrassing 4th of July for Fox News whom are often accused of inciting anti-Obama sentiments.

Hackers broke into the Fox News Twitter account and began falsely tweeting that the president had been shot while campaigning in Iowa. Some of the false tweets said “@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead. A sad 4th of July, indeed. President Barack Obama is dead,” read the Fox News Twitter feed. More false tweets soon followed with the purposed site of the assassination. These tweets were available on the Fox News Twitter account for more than 6 hours (after the first tweet) before being taken down.

A group called The Script Kiddies took responsibility for the Fox News Tweets, and have since had their own Twitter account suspended.

The hackers are now being investigated by Fox News.
