Manitoba fights to keep the Canadian Wheat Board

The province of Manitoba is set to launch a radio and television advertising campaign targeted at Ottawa, and their decision to “destroy the wheat board.” The campaign highlights the importance of keeping the Canadian Wheat Board, and the effects on the farmers across the province if Ottawa’s decision goes forward.
The Federal Conservatives have set out to end the wheat board’s monopoly in an effort to gain sales and allow farmers to sell their products independently. However, the province of Manitoba feels that its farmers will lose their wheat board if the monopoly dies, and without their monopoly prices could potentially drop, leaving smaller profit margins for local farmers.
