In an effort to create good PR, Taco Bell Canada announced the launch of “Free Taco week” starting today. The fast food chain plans to give free tacos away until April 13th from 3 pm – 6pm. The company plans to promote their free taco campaign with a tv commercial similar to the US Taco Bell campaign, as well as online advertising and print material in participating locations across Canada.
Recently Taco Bell faced a class-action lawsuit in the states for allegedly only having 35% beef in their taco mix. There has been a lot of talk about the quality of meat served at Taco Bell since the lawsuit was first announced late last year. Taco Bell USA has been quite vocal through the whole legal proceedings, launching the world’s largest free Taco giveaway ever, while also launching a very clever PR strategy called “Thanks for suing us.”
I have to say, this is quite the interesting approach for Taco Bell Canada considering the fact that the company Priszm Income Fund which owns partial controlling shares in more than 400 KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut restaurants across Canada in under creditor protection while the company restructures and downsizes.
