Shaw Communications president Peter Bissonnette announced on Wednesday that the communications company plans to eliminate about 500 jobs across Western Canada in an effort to reduce overhead expenses. Bissonnette plans to consolidated 18 operating regions into 7 including cutting 150 management and supervisory positions. Currently Shaw operates with more than 13,000 employees and Bissonnette noted that the company has growing quickly in recent years in the internet and telephone segment of their business , he plans to shift resources round in the company for a more efficient workflow.
“We’ve looked at that and said the cost effectiveness of our company is really important and we need to start really looking at operating income and the kinds of overhead that we acquired in that growth,” he said.
The cuts are said to not affect their recent acquisition of Global TV assets.
